With the introduction of Geo 2008 comes a new license management system based on certificates. This new system will store certificates directly on the dongle, allowing us more flexibility for handling modules.
SINGLE-USER LICENSE
One of the requirements for using this new system is that you currently use a HASP hardware lock.
 HASP hardware lock
Installation with HASP
- Register your hardware lock's ID. If you've already done this, then you can move on to step 2, otherwise, follow the instructions for registering your hardware lock.
- Remove the hardware lock from your computer.
- Install Geo 2008 (instructions). Note that Geo 2008 should not be installed in the same directory as older versions of Geo.
- Download the certificate onto your hardware lock by starting DongleTool, which you can find in your Start Menu under SBG.

- Click on the "License Server" tab. The modules marked in green can be checked out onto your hardware lock. Mark them and click on the "Checkout" button.
- Confirm that you've marked the modules that you want to check out.
Now the hardware lock is ready for use with Geo 2008. Note that the lock will continue to function with older versions of Geo.
If the following message appears when you start Geo, then it's likely that the certificate hasn't been properly downloaded onto the hardware lock. Start DongleTool again and in the "USB Hardware Lock" tab make sure that the modules are marked green. Otherwise follow the instructions for DongleTool again.

If you have any of the locks displayed above, you'll have to have it replaced with a HASP lock. We replace hardware locks free of charge for all customers with a valid subscription. Although the old license management system will continue to function during the transition period, support for the older hardware locks will cease and we advice you to have these replaced. Send us an e-mail at hardlock@sbg.se with your contact information, Geo serial number and what type of hardware lock you have.
Instructions for upgrading to Geo 2008 with locks other than HASP:
- Remove the hardware lock from the computer.

- Copy the file geow.ini from your old Geo directory.
- Delete the file host.xml in %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\SBG\GEO (paste this path into Windows Explorer)
- Start Geo.
NETWORK LICENSE
Certificates can't be used with the network locks, so you will continue to use license codes and network codes.

As an alternative to using hardware locks, users can connect directly to a license server, provided they are connected to the internet while running the application. Users can maintain a module pool on the license server and check these modules out to a hardware lock in the event they need to run Geo out in the field. This solution isn't complete yet, but more information will be available on our site shortly.
